It’s been a privilege to serve as your President for the last three years. I’d be proud to serve again, for a final term.
In 2015 I pledged to be accessible, in person and via social media. I pledged to champion our issues, strengthen our bicultural relationships and build our collective union power.

As President I accepted only Staff Nurse pay. Refusing the six-figure presidential salary was a matter of conscience. Can I honestly advocate on our collective concerns while earning six figures? Can I represent our membership, if my circumstances are disconnected from yours? I lead for the many, not the few.
Today’s winds of change provide huge renewal opportunities. If re-elected I’ll lead the change we want. NZNO will be open and responsive to us, the members. That’s my pledge to you now.

Hi Ade, as a member of the DHB MECA negotiating team, I am all too aware of the barrier you face. And as a mental health nurse myself, who has previously worked in Auckland, I have been in exactly the same boat, too.
As I’m sure you know, the NZNO DHB MECA does not cover mental health nurses at WCDHB. This is the result of historical factors, and is supported by the Memorandum of Understanding between NZNO and PSA (which was reviewed and re-signed last year). So all I can do at this stage is sympathise, and remind you of the benefits of dual membership at reduced rates.
I do understand your predicament, and as President I would like to work through a process to resolve it, in the longer term.
